"The Undertaker" [2006]
Song: Knyazev (text), Gorsheniov (music, lead vocal)
We were saying goodbye on the ferry, when the coachman croaked to me: "At the graveyard, in a decrepit house, lives an old man, the undertaker. A year ago, the evil spirit took his mind and shrouded it in darkness.
That man began throwing himself at people, frightening their children, mocking at the faith and despising the humankind. If you happen to meet him at night, upon my word, you will have a hard time."
Grave silence in the village, as if all the people died out. A strange prayer is heard from the cemetery – from the house, where the old man lives. What is he singing about? Whom is he calling?
I discovered accidentally a stake and a cross on the ground. What the devil’s mystery are these sinister places hiding? In coffins lay people as if in coma – the same is in every house.
Grave silence in the village, as if all the people died out. A strange prayer is heard from the cemetery – from the house, where the old man lives. What is he singing about? Whom is he calling?
Twilights came flooding in, and, at a moment, I felt my blood growing cold. The old man hovered in the air above the cemetery, and I heard rustling.
In Latin he uttered something – the coffins opened in the gloom. At my side he pointed with his finger, and the shadows moved towards me.
I was looking for people, while the sun was going down, and the night approached.
